This is what a St. George’s Year 6 student felt during the first week of the school’s effort to raise money for the plight of Haitian people. After the terrible news broke out about the devastating earthquake, students and staff rallied together and organised events such as a ‘Bring and Buy’ sale, cake sales, a sponsored walk, sponsored chores, a music ‘playathon’, ‘Fill and sell a jar’, a car wash, a Carnival party, raffles, and a variety of sports activities.
“Pain – not just physical pain but also the emotional pain that the Haitians are experiencing as they have lost their homes, or even worse, their family members,” was the response of a Year 9 student to the question of how she felt upon seeing the first horrific images. Sentiments like these have driven the students and staff of St. George’s school of Malaga to come together to try and alleviate some of that pain.
The school’s goal was to raise 10,000€ by Easter, to be specifically directed to UNICEF’s Relief Fund for Haiti. We achieved this goal by raising 10,007€!! We are very proud of the school community and hope that we will make a small but significant difference.
It makes the world a better place when you see children helping other children.
