Los alumnos de Year 4 visitaron Faunia

http://www.stgeorge.es/sites/files/P1180026%20Faunia.JPG In February 4C made a trip to Faunia to learn about animals and how they have adapted to their habitats. We visited the Antarctic habitat and learned more about some of the penguins that live in the Southern Ocean, including the second largest penguins in the world, King Penguins.   The children will be using the information they gathered in their science lessons and they will also be including some of the information in our book on Antarctica.

Madrid Received two illustrious visitors

http://www.stgeorge.es/sites/files/IMAG0039.jpg At the beginning of March, Mr. Shallcross, General Director, accompanied two illustrious visitors on a visit to our school in Madrid. Penny Jones, Deputy Director for Independent Education in the Department for Education, and Jane Cooper, principal Officer for OFSTED, were impressed by the school. In particular, they commented on the British style of education the children receive and on the enthusiasm of the teaching team.

Outstanding writing!

The winning stories from each class were sent off to a British Book Publishers, “Chapter One” into a competition they were running. One of the entries, Ana Sauras from year 4 was chosen as a runner up. This was a fantastic achievement, as she was competing against English native writers from across the U.K. Her story will now be published in a short stories book. Well done Ana, we are very proud of your achievement!

GETTING TO KNOW YOUR TOWN

http://www.stgeorge.es/sites/files/DSC01929.JPG As part of a special programme called "Getting to know your Town" in conjunction with the Sanlúcar la Mayor town hall, our Year 4 pupils were invited to meet the Mayor, as well as visit the town hall itself.  Children enjoyed their trip and the chance to meet the Mayor!

YEAR 7 POETS TAKE THE STAGE

http://www.stgeorge.es/sites/files/IMGP3027_0.JPG Year 7 pupils proved what promising poets they are at their assembly last Friday.  They began by performing a range of poetry written by others that they had selected and arranged.  They followed this by an individual  performance of a poem each had written themselves. All present were impresed by their confidence in performing and the quality of the poetry they had written.

Foundation stage and Year 1 goes to the Theatre

http://www.stgeorge.es/sites/files/colors-numbers.jpg On Friday 8th April, Foundation stage and Year 1 went to a local theatre to see a production called Numbers, Colours and Songs. The show told the story of a young Spanish girl who wanted to be good at drawing. One day, one of her colouring pencils came to life and she was able to teach him lots of words in English and in return he taught her how to draw. Throughout the show there was lots of laughter, fun and songs and the children were encouraged to participate and ask questions. The children greatly enjoyed the outing and really enjoyed the bus ride!

ST. GEORGE SCHOOL'S TOMBOLA

We had many prizes to be won, various stands and games, lots of fun, as well as food and drink that was brought in by the children. It was a very successful afternoon and 2.200 Euros were made. Eual amounts were donated to Unicef and the “Fundación de Escuelas Solidarias.”

FULL DAY ACTIVITIES LINKED TO THE REINA SOFÍA MUSEUM

http://www.stgeorge.es/sites/files/DSC00826.JPG On the 25th April St George’s organised a full day of art activities linked with the Reina Sofia in Madrid for students in Years 2, 3 and 4.The Reina Sofia runs a programme whereby they begin the day at school with the children to give them an introduction to the artists and their work that they will view at the museum. The three classes then spent the morning at the Reina Sofia viewing and listening to talks about the work of artists such as Picasso, Klein and Jorn.

Tómbola Solidaria en St. George's School Madrid
